Hipster For A Day

Okay, so in order to avoid being called more of a hipster than I already "am" I will refrain from making any sarcastic comments. My big, Caramie and I decided that it would be fun to dress up like hipsters and take ironic pictures... however, being ironic and witty is sort of a "hipster" thing to do... it was fun nonetheless.  To be honest, I actually liked some of the outfits I picked out. So I will probably wear them to school. Guilty.  Not sure if I would actually rock those glasses in everyday life though. I'll leave that to the true hipsters.  What a day!

In case you don't know what a hipster is... Urban Dictionary claims, "Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic. Despite misconceptions based on their aesthetic tastes, hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in maths and sciences, which also require certain creative analytical thinking abilities. It is part of the hipster central dogma not to be influenced by mainsream advertising and media, which tends to only promote ethnocentric ideals of beauty. The concepts of androgyny and feminism have influenced hipster culture, where hipster men are often as thin as the women they date. Although hipsters are technically conformists within their own subculture, in comparison to the much larger mainstream mass, they are pioneers and leaders of the latest cultural trends and ideals. He or she rejects "mainstream" culture and embraces and contributes to independent culture, and prides him/herself on this."
This is just a snippet...
To become a hipster yourself try websites like:
1.  www.wikihow.com/Be-a-Hipster
2.  www.urbanoutfitters.com
3.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bbLVm618xs (this guy knows what's up)
4.  www.latfh.com (this is actually a website Caramie was told about that makes fun of hipsters, but some of it is rather enlightening as to hipsterism... please ignore the actual title of the website)

And now presenting Caramie and Taylor... the Hipsters

An Incredibly Talented Artist

Sometimes I feel that I have to share a really talented artist with you.  This girl has a crazy powerful voice and has a lot of inspiring things to say.  She's cute as a button too! Jessie J will blow you away! Each one of her songs is so different from the next. I absolutely love that she is so outgoing, friendly, and uninhibited (see the boombox series).  She definitely has a message to send to the world. Watch watch!!

A Lovely Thing: Tommy Hilfiger Ads

I absolutely adore the fact that Tommy Hilfiger is returning to its' classic all-American styled ads for winter/autumn 2010 and spring/summer 2011.  I think the styling was done very tastefully.  Enjoy!

Song For The Day

For some reason I can't stop listening to this song today.  I can't decide if it's my love for Fleet Foxes, the need for the perfect song to welcome spring, or just me anxiously awaiting their new album.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have today!

Darling Dolls: A Men's Edition

Some would like to disagree with the fact that I think men should dress like this, but I think it's unique.  I love the expression of individuality.  Too often I feel as though I walk around and see people conforming to the rest of the world and its' standards of dress.  So, try something new this week that you wouldn't ordinarily see yourself wearing, but you've always been dying to make it work!
I love every piece from this outfit. Hat. Cardigan. Shoes. Yes.
I like his necklace and glasses. Great fitting cardigans for men are always a plus.
Adore the sweater.
The color and style of these shoes are perfection.
Some guys can just pull off the rolled up jeans. The bandana scarf is looking pretty rad too.
And the ever classic Converse (Chuck Taylor's if that's your preference) and plaid button up. Love.

That's all I have to share for now. :)

You Get The Drift: Feathers

Alright, I'm probably not going to have so many fans after saying this, but I am just not in love with the little hair feathers that everyone is getting sewn into their hair. I think they would be much cuter if they were normal sized feathers that were neutral colored, not just string-like neon streaks of "feather".  I just do not get what people are thinking is so "earthy" and "bohemian" about them. . . Most of them are bright, neon colors, which is not generally what I think of when I hear the words "earthy" and "urban." They are everywhere on campus though!! Which goes back to my "why do people not want to be individual" question. However, this is merely a personal opinion of mine. Sorry if I offended anyone.
